Bur Basics
Cone Burs have tapered sides that come to a point at their tip. They’re used for enlarging and deburring holes and for repositioningflush settings before refining the seat. Also available with round or flat ends.
Cross-Cut Burs feature slotted cutting edges. The slots prevent clogging, reduce friction and chatter, and improve cutting efficiency.
Vanadium Steel burs are economically priced. They cut precisely when new, but don’t retain their sharpness as long as other steel alloys.
3⁄32” dia. shanks are the jeweler’s preferred standard for burs and small rotary tools. They fit the adjustable chucks found on most flexshaft handpieces as well as 3⁄32” handpiece collets.
